Being Responsible
At St. Patrick’s we believe that having roles of responsibility in school and the community builds a child’s sense of purpose. We provide many opportunities for children to take on roles of responsibility including a range of classroom duties which are shared out by each class teacher to encourage inclusion and responsibility. Each year the children volunteer, apply for or are voted into the roles below. Click on the links below to find out how wonderfully dedicated our children are in ensuring our school is the best it can be.
School Council
Our dedicated school council meet regularly to discuss issues and help raise the standards in our school. Through this collaboration and development, the children have been able to take an active role in the decision making and implementation of new ideas in school.
Mini Vinnies
Our group of Mini Vinnies are part of the Society of St Vincent de Paul. The St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) is an international Christian voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing practical assistance to those in need.
Fairtrade Committee
Our Fairtrade children work very hard to raise money for Fairtrade. Any profit made then goes to St. John’s in Korogocho, Kenya – a link made through John McBride at Cafod
Friendship Fixers
Positive relationships have on huge impact on emotional wellbeing. Our friendship fixers are trained in peer mediation. They support children to resolve their friendship conflicts without needing adult intervention.
Sports Leaders
Our Sports Leaders ensure that playground games and activities are set up every morning break time and that all children are playing co-operatively. They lead games and look after the outdoor equipment.
Altar Servers
We have three children this year who have volunteered to be altar servers. Their primary role is to assist our priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. This is done through specific actions and by setting an example to the congregation by active participation in the liturgy (hymns, responses, etc.), by looking alert and sitting or standing at the appropriate times.
School Librarians
Every year children from our Year 5 and 6 classes write a letter of application to become a school librarian. It is not an easy job. They not only have to tidy the library, they need to catalogue both fiction and non-fiction books and also label them. This is in addition to helping people sign books in and out.
Head Boy & Head Girl
At the start of the year in Year 6, children are invited to write a letter of application to Mrs Gill our Head Teacher to become Head boy and Head girl. This role holds a great deal of responsibility. Successful applicants must be exemplary roles models for all of the children at St. Patrick’s.
Lunchbox Trolley Managers
Our lunchbox trolley managers serve an important role at lunchtimes. They are responsible for ensuring that lunchbox trolleys tidied and returned to all classes following lunchtime. This contributes to keeping our school organised.
Litter Pickers
Our litter pickers undertake daily litter picking around our school site. They are equipped with specialist gloves, specialist litter bags, litter grabbers and high vis vests. They are an asset in helping us keep our school tidy.
